History by Decade

19th–20th Century — Early Growth and Long Journeys

Latter-day Saint missionaries first arrived in the Florida Panhandle during the late 19th century, establishing small congregations amidst early opposition. As Church membership grew steadily across northern Florida throughout the 20th century, members relied on long-distance travel to attend temples in Atlanta, Georgia or Orlando, Florida.

2020s — Announcement, Construction, and Dedication

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Tallahassee Florida Temple in April 2020, bringing overwhelming joy to local members. Ground was broken on June 5, 2021, followed by three and a half years of detailed craftsmanship and precast concrete assembly. Elder Patrick Kearon dedicated the 202nd operating temple on December 8, 2024.

The Tallahassee Florida Temple features a refined Neo-Classical Revival architectural style designed by Barnett Fronczak Barlowe & Shuler Architects to complement the civic and historic architecture of Florida's capital city.

Clad in 324 custom architectural precast concrete panels with a uniform glass-blast sandblasted finish.

Interior Stonework

Features Latte beige marble from Turkey complemented by Gray Cloud stone and Silver Screen vein-cut marble.

Axminster and hand-tufted wool carpets woven with leaf lattice, palm fronds, and magnolia rosettes.
