The Mormon Miracle Pageant

For 53 years, the largest outdoor religious drama in America drew over 100,000 visitors to Manti each summer.

The Mormon Miracle Pageant was an annual outdoor theatrical production held on the grounds of the Manti Utah Temple from 1967 to 2019. With a cast of over 900 volunteer performers, it was the largest outdoor religious pageant in the United States, drawing audiences of 15,000 per night and over 100,000 visitors each summer season.

The pageant dramatized scenes from the Book of Mormon, beginning with Lehi's vision and the journey from Jerusalem, through the ministry of Christ in the Americas, and concluding with the restoration of the Church through Joseph Smith. The temple hill itself served as the stage, with the majestic temple providing a stunning backdrop that enhanced the spiritual atmosphere.

Audiences sat on blankets and lawn chairs on the hillside across from the temple, watching as the story unfolded on multiple levels of the hill. Professional lighting and sound systems, combined with the natural amphitheater setting, created an immersive experience that moved many attendees to tears.

In 2018, the Church announced that the pageant would be discontinued after the 2019 season, along with other large-scale pageants. Church leaders explained the decision as part of a broader effort to redirect resources toward home-centered gospel learning and local productions. The final performance in June 2019 drew record crowds, with many returning for one last experience of a beloved tradition.
